Ten sentenced of cyber-bullying against Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has found guilty ten people for engaging in the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the partner of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The those on trial faced charges of spreading fabrications regarding her gender and sexuality, in addition to making malicious remarks about the pair's 24-year age gap.
The court issued suspended jail terms of a maximum of eight months to the convicted individuals. The detailed judgment has not yet been published.
A longstanding conspiracy theory alleging that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has spread widely since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This recent ruling in France comes as the Macrons initiating a defamation lawsuit in the United States against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has repeatedly shared comparable unfounded claims about the French president's wife's gender.
Their complaint states that Owens ignored any factual proof that refuted her assertions opting to amplify the voices of notorious conspiracy peddlers.
Owens has often echoed these allegations on her podcast and social networks, and in March 2024 declared that she would bet her whole career on her belief that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.
Brigitte Macron initially encountered her future husband when she was a teacher at his lycée.
The two married in 2007, when the future French president was 29 and she was in her mid-50s.
